Alex Cora is a Puerto Rican professional baseball manager and former infielder who most recently served as the manager of the Boston Red Sox in MLB. He is the fifth MLB manager to win the World Series in his very first season, and the first Puerto Rican manager to lead a World Series-winning team.

Alex Cora was born into a family with deep roots in baseball; it was this environment that instilled a love for the sport in both Alex and his older brother, Joey Cora. Cora attended Bautista High School in Caguas, and despite being selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 1993 MLB Draft, he decided to continue his education.

Career
He was selected in the 12th round of the 1993 MLB Draft, but he chose to play for the University of Miami. He began the 1997 season with the San Antonio Missions and appeared in 127 games. He was also assigned to play with the Albuquerque Dukes during the 1998, 1999, and 2000 seasons, where he appeared in 191 games.
Alex made his MLB debut on June 7, 1998, playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Seattle Mariners. During the 2005 season, he appeared in 49 games with the Cleveland Indians as a free agent. In 2009, he signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets and appeared in a total of 144 games.
